New Hampshire Historic Bridge Inventory Update and Management Plan
Statewide, New Hampshire
This multi-year (2016-19), multi-phase project involved the planning and implementation of New Hampshire’s first comprehensive historic bridge inventory, evaluating the National Register status and eligibility of over 2,600 bridges statewide. The principal work products were a three volume technical report and GIS database compiling bridge data and evaluations needed to plan for and advance compliance with Section 106, Section 4(f) and NEPA. The management plan discusses the various criteria, considerations, goals, concurrences, general context and potentially acceptable treatments by historic bridge material, type, construction method and location. The plan provides guidance on agency roles and responsibilities to be integrated into NHDOT’s operational and maintenance practices. The project was developed in close consultation with a Historic Bridge Working Group consisting of representatives of FHWA, NHDOT and NHDHR..
